Fat people deserve safe, accessible public spaces
FatFabFree is building the first community-powered accessibility platform and app designed to help fat people and others in marginalized bodies navigate public life with more confidence, dignity, and safety.
Phase 1 launch begins with healthcare because the consequences of inaccessible spaces can be severe—but the vision extends far beyond medical settings.
Our goal is simple:
Help people know what to expect before they arrive.
Whether you’re scheduling a doctor’s appointment, visiting a new clinic, attending an event, or exploring your community, access shouldn’t depend on guesswork.
The problem isn’t discomfort. It’s access.
Millions of people encounter barriers that are rarely documented, rarely discussed, and often invisible to anyone who doesn’t experience them. Most people have no way to find answers about accessibility before they arrive in a new space.
As a result, many delay care, avoid services, cancel plans, or enter new spaces carrying unnecessary anxiety.
The problem isn’t a lack of resilience. The problem is a lack of information.

What FatFabFree is building
FatFabFree is creating one of the first platforms with a searchable directory focused on size accessibility, beginning in healthcare. The directory will combine community reporting, facility-level accessibility data, moderation, and research-ready gap analysis.
Over time, the platform will allow users to:
  • Search for providers, facilities, and services across the public sector
  • Share accessibility information
  • Report experiences anonymously
  • Discover spaces that better meet their needs
  • Help identify patterns and access gaps
Submissions will be moderated to improve accuracy, consistency, and usefulness.
The goal is not to rate providers, services, or spaces. The goal is to document access.
By combining thousands of experiences, we can create a clearer picture of what accessibility looks like in the real world.
This information can help researchers, advocates, institutions, and policymakers better understand where barriers exist—and where change is needed.

Why healthcare first?
People in larger bodies frequently report difficulty finding:
  • Appropriate medical equipment
  • Accessible seating
  • Weight-neutral care
  • Providers and staff who treat them respectfully
  • Facilities that meet their needs
When access barriers occur in healthcare settings, the consequences can affect health, safety, and quality of life.
That’s why healthcare is our first focus area. Future phases will expand into:
  • Transportation
  • Retail
  • Hospitality
  • Cultural institutions
  • Recreation and public spaces
Why this matters
Access impacts more than convenience.
It influences health outcomes, participation, opportunity, independence, and belonging.
When people cannot reliably determine whether a space will meet their needs, they often bear the burden of uncertainty alone.
FatFabFree exists because people deserve better access to the spaces, services, and care they need—and access shouldn’t depend on guesswork.
